Help/Advice Camshaft Position Sensor Failure P0340 Empty
PostSubject: Help/Advice Camshaft Position Sensor Failure P0340   Help/Advice Camshaft Position Sensor Failure P0340 EmptyMon 6 Feb - 20:44

Hi guys,

After some advice about what to do to get this sorted.

Driving into carpark car decided to clap out, engine management light came on. affraid

Tried to start engine, wouldn't at first then after a few tries it fires up but shaking like its not running on all cylinders!

Turns it off then tried to restart but nothing, just turning over.

So I plugged in OBD reader, which showed code P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit (Bank 1 or Single Sensor). Crying or Very sad

So I cleared the fault code and the engine fired up, seemed to be running on all cylinders now but felt a bit rough.

This was a week ago, so been taking it easy as it still doesn't feel right, still runs on boost if needed and hasnt shown fault light since.

Earlier today whilst sitting idling the engine seemed to give a bit of excess vibration as though it was out of balance only slightly and only for split seconds as though it was running on three then four cylinders. scratch

Since I got the car last year it has had an intermittent starting issue where on the odd occasion it will turn and not fire but then will fire up no bother, thought it was an immobiliser problem so just got on with it, but maybe this could be linked?

Getting very worried and need help to get it running sweet again.

Any advice of how to gerit fixed or previous experiences would be much appreciated lads n lasses.

Soz for long post.

Smile

cam sensor is not right the car will still run but lumpy and not right. It sounds as the cam sensor could be at fault. Be worth trying another.

The Older cars the car doesnt start with the cam sensor fitted but the newage ones

does the code reader you are using have access to any live running data ? this will be more acurate at locating the issue if you can record a few minutes data while car running rough il take a look at the data and help point you in the wright direction if this helps... regards chris

Thanks Again Andy, as I said I think it has fixed it, but still not 100% sure its running totally right.

Duno if i'm being over cautious now but there may still be a little murmer now and again.

It is firing up a lot better, like it's keen to start, and haven't had it not start since the sensor change.

Also in between gear changes its more smooth as before it seemed to be a bit stuttery/jerky.

Am keeping a close eye on it, but fingers crossed.
