I had a strong smell of petrol from mine and thought I had a link but had it checked over and turned out a lamba sensor was knackered

Check the fuel regulator if it's an aftermarket part, especially if it has a gauge permanently fitted. I had one in the past that cracked and was leaking.

It would be at the front of the engine by the power steering pump on yours iirc mate. It attaches to the end of the fuel rail. If it's an aftermarket job, chances are it might have a pressure gauge on it, especially if its an ebay special. Just something to check if it might have had one fitted before you bought the car.
